The Reddit Conversions API on WooCommerce

People who click Reddit ads often browse with an ad blocker, a privacy browser or the Reddit app, and many of them come back later to buy. On a WooCommerce store that's where the Reddit Pixel loses sales. Here's how the Reddit Conversions API fits in, what Reddit needs to link an order to an ad, and how to keep each purchase counted once.

rdt_cid kept 90 days

Reddit's click id is saved the moment someone lands, and stored on the order at checkout.

Sent when it's paid

Paid orders go to Reddit as a purchase from the server, not from a thank-you page.

Missed orders resent

Every hour Settl checks the past week's paid orders and sends anything that didn't arrive.

The usual WooCommerce setup: Reddit for WooCommerce

Most stores start with Reddit for WooCommerce, the free extension published by WooCommerce in the Woo Marketplace. It syncs your product catalog to Reddit for Dynamic Product Ads, installs the Reddit Pixel with view content, add to cart and purchase events, and can send the same events through the Conversions API, which Woo's documentation strongly recommends switching on. You connect it with a WordPress.com account and a Reddit Ads business account, and you can launch campaigns from your WordPress admin (product page and docs, checked October 2026).

For catalog sync and Dynamic Product Ads it's the natural choice, and you can keep it. Woo's docs also point out that product ids in your feed must match the ids in your pixel and Conversions API events. The questions on this page are about the purchase signal: does every paid order reach Reddit, with the ad click, exactly once?

Why WooCommerce loses Reddit sales

  • Ad blockers and privacy browsers. Many of them block the Reddit Pixel by default, and a blocked pixel never reports the purchase, however well it's installed.
  • The Reddit app. A tap on your ad opens the store in Reddit's in-app browser. Buyers who switch to Safari or Chrome to pay start a new session, and the pixel there doesn't know about the click.
  • Coming back later. Someone reads a thread with your ad, closes the app and buys days later by typing your URL. Without a stored click, that order looks like direct traffic.
  • Payment methods that leave your site, such as PayPal, iDEAL in a bank app, Klarna or a hosted card page. The buyer pays and closes the tab, so the order-received page where browser tags report the purchase never loads.
  • Cookie banners and script-delay settings in optimization plugins, which can hold the pixel back on exactly the page that matters.

What Reddit needs to link a purchase to an ad

Reddit matches a server event to a person and an ad with what arrives alongside it:

  • rdt_cid: Reddit's click id, added to your landing URL when someone clicks your ad.
  • The browser id the Reddit Pixel stores in the _rdt_uuid cookie, if the pixel runs on your store.
  • Email and phone, hashed with SHA-256. Settl lowercases and normalizes the email the way Reddit asks before hashing.
  • IP address and user agent from the visit.
  • Value, currency, the products and a conversion id.

Which WooCommerce orders should count as a purchase

Reddit optimizes purchase campaigns toward the purchases you report. If unpaid orders count, it learns to find people who start a bank transfer and never finish it. Only paid orders belong in Reddit:

  • Processing or Completed after a successful payment: send it.
  • On hold (bank transfer, cash on delivery): wait until the order is actually paid.
  • Pending payment, Failed, Cancelled, Refunded or a checkout draft: don't send it.
  • Processing turning into Completed is the same order and must not create a second purchase.

How Settl sends WooCommerce orders to Reddit

The Settl Tracking plugin saves the rdt_cid when a visitor lands from a Reddit ad and keeps it in a first-party cookie for 90 days. If the Reddit Pixel has set its own cookies, the plugin reads those too, including _rdt_uuid. At checkout the click is stored on the order itself, and hashed email and phone go along, which helps Reddit match buyers who switched browsers before paying.

When WooCommerce marks the order paid, the plugin passes it to Settl, which sends a purchase to the Reddit Conversions API from the server. It carries the value and currency, the products, the rdt_cid and _rdt_uuid, hashed email and phone, the visitor's IP address and user agent, and a conversion id. Custom statuses you use after payment, such as Shipped, still count as paid.

Every hour Settl asks the plugin for the paid orders of the past week and sends any that are missing, so a hosting hiccup or a slow payment confirmation doesn't cost you the sale. With server-side shopping steps switched on, page visits, product views, searches and add-to-carts go to Reddit from the server as well.

Avoiding double counts

Reddit treats a pixel event and a Conversions API event as one conversion when they carry the same conversion id. That only works when both come from the same setup, because each tool makes up its own ids.

Settl's plugin doesn't add the Reddit Pixel to your store, so its conversion ids won't match a pixel from Reddit for WooCommerce or another plugin. If that pixel, or that extension's own Conversions API connection, also reports purchases, pick one source for purchases and leave the other to page views and add to carts.

To check, compare a week of purchases in Reddit Ads Manager with your paid WooCommerce orders from Reddit. Purchases close to double the real number mean two sources are reporting the same sales.

Your options on WooCommerce (checked October 2026)

Reddit for WooCommerce is free, published by WooCommerce, and covers catalog sync, the pixel, the Conversions API and campaign creation in one place. If Reddit is a small channel for you, that may be all you need.

Connector services such as Datahash read your WooCommerce orders and send them to Reddit through their own platform, with field mapping and match feedback; pricing is on request. A Google Tag Manager server container gives you full control if you're comfortable running and maintaining it.

Settl focuses on the purchase: paid orders only, the click kept for 90 days, sent from the server and rechecked every hour. The same plugin covers Meta, TikTok, Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads, Snapchat, Pinterest, X and Microsoft Advertising, so you don't need a separate setup per platform.

How to check it works

Click one of your own Reddit ads and check that rdt_cid is still in the address bar when your store opens. A redirect or link shortener that drops it means no click can be saved. Settl's hourly tracking health check also flags Reddit visits that arrive with an empty or template click id.

Then place a real order with a payment method that leaves your site and close the tab right after paying. In Reddit Ads Manager's Events Manager, a purchase with your order's value should still appear. Judge Reddit over a week or more: people who saw your ad often come back later, and the saved click is what lets Reddit see its part.

How to set it up with Settl

  1. 1Install the Settl Tracking plugin

Add it in WordPress and paste your connection code from the Settl dashboard.

  2. 2Get your pixel id and token

In Reddit Ads Manager, open Events Manager, copy your pixel id and generate a Conversions API access token.

  3. 3Paste them into Settl

Paid orders now go to Reddit from the server as purchases, with the saved rdt_cid.

  4. 4Keep one purchase source

Make sure no other plugin sends purchases separately, then test with an off-site payment.

Questions

Do I have to remove Reddit for WooCommerce?+

No. Keep it for catalog sync and Dynamic Product Ads. Just make sure purchases don't reach Reddit from two sources with different conversion ids.

Does Settl add the Reddit Pixel to my store?+

No. On WooCommerce Settl sends Reddit events from the server. If you want the pixel for audiences, keep it from Reddit for WooCommerce or another plugin.

What about bank transfer and cash on delivery?+

Those orders go to Reddit once WooCommerce marks them paid, not when they're placed.

Will Reddit match every order to an ad?+

No. Settl sends every paid order, but whether Reddit links it to a click depends on its own matching and on what the buyer allowed in your cookie banner.

Does it work on Shopify too?+

Yes. On Shopify you install the Settl app instead of the plugin, and Settl can send the pixel and server events with one shared conversion id.

What does it cost?+

€39,99 per month for 99,9% Tracking after 10 days free, with no contract and no per-order fees. Reddit is included with Meta, TikTok, Google, Snapchat, Pinterest and the other platforms.
