Why take payments with Revolut
Many small online businesses already run their banking on Revolut Business. Turning on Merchant (Revolut's online payments) means sales land next to the money you use to pay suppliers, ads and subscriptions, without another provider to manage.
Revolut also brings Revolut Pay. Buyers who have Revolut can pay in a few taps without typing card details, which is quick on a phone. Buyers without Revolut simply pay by card or wallet on the same page.
How Revolut's merchant fees work
Revolut charges per payment, and the rate depends on where the card comes from, with cards from your own region usually cheaper than international ones. What you pay can also depend on your Revolut Business plan. Check the merchant fees in your Revolut Business app for your exact numbers.
On a Settl checkout you pay Revolut's merchant fees and Settl's flat monthly price. No per-order fee from Settl, and no Shopify third-party transaction fee on top, because the payment doesn't go through Shopify's checkout.
What buyers can pay with
Through Revolut, buyers pay with Revolut Pay, cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay. When they choose Revolut on your checkout, they pay on Revolut's secure payment page and return to your store's confirmation. Revolut confirms the payment to Settl and the order is created in Shopify.
Revolut doesn't cover every local method. If many of your buyers are Dutch or Belgian, connect Stripe or Mollie next to it for iDEAL and Bancontact. Each method shows as its own option.
Is Revolut enough on its own?
For a store that sells mainly by card to buyers across Europe, Revolut alone can work well: cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Revolut Pay cover a large share of buyers, and the money lands where you already bank.
If your buyers expect a bank method like iDEAL, or many of them prefer PayPal, add a second provider. In your Settl dashboard you connect it next to Revolut and drag the options into the order you want. Watch which one your buyers pick in the first weeks and adjust from there.
Payouts
Card and Revolut Pay payments settle into your Revolut Business account. From there you can spend, exchange or transfer the money like any other balance. Refunds are made from Revolut Business.
Merchant has to be switched on and approved for your Revolut Business account before you can take payments. Make sure Revolut knows what your store sells, and finish any checks they ask for before you switch your checkout over.
Setting up your Shopify Revolut checkout
Settl needs one thing from Revolut: the production secret key from the Merchant API section of your Revolut Business web app. Paste it in your Settl dashboard and Settl creates the payment notification (webhook) in your Revolut account itself.
Want to test first? Choose Sandbox mode with a sandbox key, place a test order, then switch to your production key when you're happy.
