How we picked and what we compared
Every tool here replaces or fully customises the checkout of a Shopify store and sends paid orders back to Shopify. We looked at the cheapest plan you can go live on, the fee each takes per order, and which payment providers you can connect. Upsell-only apps that sit on top of Shopify's checkout aren't in the table, because they don't change where or how buyers pay.
Processing fees from your payment provider apply to every option, so we left them out of the table. Compare those separately.
Settl
Settl gives your store a branded checkout on your own domain, paid through your own provider. You can connect several providers side by side, so buyers see local methods like iDEAL and Bancontact next to cards and wallets. It includes an order bump, an offer after purchase, discount codes, reminder emails, checkout A/B tests and subscribe & save (Stripe and Mollie), and works on every Shopify plan. If your primary provider errors or declines, a backup provider can take the payment. Settl takes 0% per order and never holds the money. Pro (€49,99/month) adds server-side tracking to Meta, TikTok, Google (GA4 and Google Ads), Snapchat, Pinterest, X, Microsoft Ads and Reddit.
Where others do more: Settl's failover works across the providers you connect yourself, not hundreds of gateways, and it has no CRM, chargeback management or payment processing of its own. If you need those, look at the tools below.
CrispCheckout and Lasso
CrispCheckout is the closest to Settl in setup: a branded checkout on your own domain, quick to install. It runs on your own Whop account only. Its strengths are built-in subscriptions with dunning and a customer portal, server-side pixels and one-click refunds. The 0.5% per order adds up as you grow.
Lasso is built for bigger operations. It offers real payment orchestration with smart routing and failover across many processors, plus fraud tools, chargeback management, subscriptions and split testing. The entry price and 1% fee make the most sense at higher volume.
Checkify, Funnelish, CheckoutChamp and Tagada
Checkify bills weekly, which lowers the entry cost for testers, and has strong extras like cash on delivery, multi-currency, address autocomplete and tracking events to many ad platforms. Its fee per order depends on the plan, and it doesn't charge that fee on cash-on-delivery orders.
Funnelish is a full funnel builder, not only a checkout: landing pages, order bumps, one-click upsells and automations, with 0% extra processing fees. Visitor and funnel caps apply per plan. CheckoutChamp and Tagada are platforms for high-volume and subscription sellers, with CRM, gateway routing and subscriptions. They do far more than a checkout, and are priced for that.
Shopify Plus
Shopify Plus keeps Shopify's own checkout and opens it up for customisation through Checkout Extensibility. You keep Shop Pay, and Shopify's fraud analysis when you use Shopify Payments, with no external checkout at all. The cost is the plan itself, from $2,300 a month on a three-year term, plus 0.2% per order if you use a third-party provider.
Which one is the best Shopify custom checkout for you?
If you're a small or growing store that wants its own design, its own providers and no cut per order, Settl or Funnelish fit best. If you sell subscriptions through Whop, CrispCheckout is built around that. If you process large volumes across dozens of gateways, or want a CRM with your checkout, Lasso, CheckoutChamp or Tagada are made for it. And if you're already at enterprise scale and want to stay native, Shopify Plus is the clean choice.
